Community Orchard

The Community Orchard is a Parish Council and resident led initiative in conjunction with the Grubs Up! project being run by the North York Moors National Park. In the next few months a section of land behind the cemetery will be fenced off to enable fruit tree and wildflower plug planting to take place later in the Autumn.

Access to the site will be via the path at the side of the cemetery, with overhanging trees being cut back and the path cleared.

It is hoped that residents will be involved with the planting and long term maintenance of the site, which is being created to increase biodiversity and provide an attractive, calming space for residents to enjoy.

In September the ground was cleared and scarified, enabling a group of residents to spread wildflower seeds. Different fruit trees including apple, plum and pear will be planted over the winter, together with native mixed hedges.

Below are some images which will hopefully give an idea of what the orchard will look like.
